Our Mission

The mission of the Wicomico Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is to partner for better investigation, assessment, prosecution, and treatment for children and families impacted by child abuse and neglect. Our vision is to be a precedent setting organization that offers a comprehensive array of services including investigation, assessment, prosecution and treatment. The Wicomico CAC will provide the highest quality of services and is committed to the use of nationally recognized standards and excellence. Also, the Wicomico CAC will contribute to preventing child abuse and neglect in Wicomico County.

Community Response to Child Abuse

No single agency can meet all the needs of maltreated children and their families. Within our Child Advocacy Center, social workers, law enforcement officers, prosecutors and mental health employees act as a team to reduce trauma for young victims and their families. By working together and combining the efforts of each of our agencies, the Wicomico Child Advocacy Center is able to provide:

  • More immediate and comprehensive follow-up to child abuse reports
  • Medical and mental health referrals
  • A reduction in the number of interviews a child must endure
  • An increase in successful prosecutions and
  • Consistent support for child victims and non-offending family members

Services Provided

  • 24 hour response to reports of child maltreatment
  • Forensic interviews of victims that reduce the overall number of interviews needed
  • Comprehensive assessment and investigation of child neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and mental abuse reports
  • Immediate referrals to counseling for victims and non-offending family members to aid the healing process
  • Case management and referrals to community resources to help families receive needed services
  • Prosecution of offenders when warranted by the evidence
  • Multidisciplinary coordination and sharing of information to better protect the child and hold the offender accountable
  • Community education about child abuse
